Our History

Lymley Wood was set up as a Community Interest Company (CIC) in May 2020 with the overall purpose of providing opportunities for children, young people and those from disadvantaged backgrounds and those from suburban and city dwellers to experience time in nature and learn respect for each other, for themselves and for Planet Earth.

Lymley Wood was previously known as Brook Farm and was run as an outdoor adventure and challenge centre for youth residentials by a charity called Adventure Unlimited, based in Brighton. After 36 years of operation, with over 15 of these years operating the woodland and playground at Brook Farm, the charity sadly ceased operation. In late 2019 Melanie Parr, Director of Lymley Wood CIC, approached the landowner with a plan to reinvigorate the space and once again return it to a venue where children can play and learn together in nature. Happily the owner agreed to lease the land to the project and Lymley Wood was born!

Earth Care, People Care, Future Care.

These are the principles of permaculture and the principles by which Lymley Wood operates.

We want to positively impact not just those who visit and spend time at this beautiful setting, but also the local community of Mayfield and Five Ashes; to leave a lasting positive difference to the natural world and environment on the site.

We want to provide a space that is regenerative now and into the future for all members of the ecosystem, including humans!

We want to give back to nature and work with her to improve, re wild and restore the woodland and meadow. We also want everyone who visits to enjoy the space, create lasting memories and have plenty of fun, away from their screens and the relentless input from the virtual world.

Despite the strange couple of years due to Covid, the project began successfully operating Forest School days for primary aged children in 2020 and through the various events we continue to host, we hope to generate some much needed income to help repair and renovate the site, including climbing equipment, zip wires and other activities.

Your support and cooperation with the Lymley Wood values is appreciated and we welcome any ideas, advice or willing helpers in this new project. Please contact Mel on enquiries@lymleywood.co.uk if you have any questions ideas or skills that could be useful at the woods.
